Escapist Magazine was the site where I got my feet wet. I’ll never forget pitching my first feature article to Josh Vanderwall (who was a staff writer at the time and went on to be Editor in Chief for a few years). We were at a party with mutual friends, and I had spent at least a few years dreaming about writing for a site like the Escapist before I actually took the steps forward. I crossed the threshold in September of 2014. My first article compared the main plot points of the Fight Club film and the Nine Inch Nails album, The Downward Spiral. Over the next three years I wrote articles ranging from an in-depth analysis of the first season of Twin Peaks to a history lesson on mass transit in America, comparing the plot of Who Framed Roger Rabbit to an event known as the “Great American Streetcar Conspiracy”.

Literate Gamer podcast was a lot of fun. Anything that combines writing and gaming is right up my alley. I ended up being a guest for six episodes of the show over the course of three years. We talked about three different Bethesda games/franchises (Skyrim, Fallout, and Fallout 76). We did two episodes on the zombie games State of Decay and Dying Light. (Fun fact: Dying Light was the inspiration to the fictional game Dim Outlook that Patrick and Reggie are playing in chapter 2 of my first book). My favorite episode was a discussion of video games that don’t exist, but should. We each pitched three ideas and discussed the pros and cons. One of my game ideas was the seed of what became The Resistance is Dead.

My first author interview came about from being actively involved in a writing subreddit. The first official interview is always special. As I move forward, I will include any future interview links here.
